Mother's Day Guest Post from Lisa at Raising...
My name is Lisa. I’m not just an English teacher, or just a mum, or a wife, or just a great big greenie. I’m all of those things. My blog Raising Explorers, inspired by my kids, is also all of those things. So what does a twin-mum, English-teaching environmentalist, who is passionate about learning through play, have to say? Well, you’ll have to come and visit to find...

Trading 15 minutes for 15 years - Part 1
By now you have seen the odd photo of me and more than likely it was sporting the a not overly flattering onesie. As you can see, I’m not a slight man by any means, but until recently I didn’t really know how bad it was.
You see, I’ve always been solid… not fat, but solid. Through High School I filled out and by the time I was 15, I was 69kgs (I remember that number for...

Welcome to the Fatherlution!
A lot of you have been reading my blog for over 2 years and some have come on board in recent weeks, but all of you are here to read about a simple man, doing special things… well “special” for a man anyway ;). When I started this blog, it was for my thoughts, feelings and experiences. I thought this would be a cool thing to give my daughter when she was older. I still think...

Boys and their toys...
Recently started building a bike track in the back yard… I was a little more excited than the boys as I got the spray paint out and started marking out the track. Jaecob (8) ventured out the back, more interested initially in the spray can, than what I was actually doing with it. Finally after a few minutes of “Can I have a go Dad?”, he asked “Dad, whatchya...

5 minutes of giggling to myself, as this came from...
Recently, I laid on my lounge while the following comments came from my son’s room… see if you can guess what was happening before the end.
That’s why we have to get it out
…
Pull it Kaine
…
Give it a yank
…
Kaine you pull it out
…
I’ll yank it out
…
Let me have another little wiggle
…
If I can just pull it, it’s done

Put in my place by a Comic Book Man
My oldest has taken in interest in comic books lately, and anything that involves reading, I will support him! So after an awesome week at school, as a reward I decided I would take all 3 boys to our local comic book store.
If you haven’t worked it out already, I am a little bit of a nerd. I wasn’t really into Comic Books as a child, but I did have an unhealthy fascination with Ren...

I found someone that can give my wife something...
When I returned to work, we hired a house cleaner. Every week, my wife calls me at work in the afternoon.
I answer the phone “Hi Hun”.
“I love Denise” is my wife’s response before she even says ‘Hi’.
Even though Denise comes every week, usually within 3 days, there is enough food on the dining room floor to feed a small country and enough wee on...

A letter to my daughter... 3AM Mum responds
My beautiful wife sent me this letter this week, responding to “A letter to my daughter”. I had to share.
It’s taken me a couple of days to be able to write this response to my dear husband after reading his beautiful letter to our special angel Yve.
The past two years has been an amazing ride with many ups and downs that go along with bringing up 4 wonderful individuals. I...

The Best 2 Years of My Life... a letter to my...
Dear Baby Girl,
I am writing to you the day after your 2nd Birthday, the day before your first day in kindy and one week before I return to work. I love you with all my heart.
I hope that over the last 2 years I have nurtured and guided you to be the best you can be. I hope that the best years of my life have been as enjoyable for you as it has been for me. Yes, we have had some difficult...

On the 1st Day of Christmas my Aussie Dad Bloggers...
You asked, we answer… in the Christmas spirit, us Aussie Dad Bloggers are lifting the veil on our secret society and answering the tough questions from a Dad’s perspective. Leading to up to Christmas, a large handful of Aussie Dad Bloggers will answer the questions raised by the fans that puzzle/intrigue/fantasise them. The brain tearing question put to me was -

God made the decision.
After a recent night out with my kids having a little too much lemonade, they started getting a little bit mental.
We piled them into the car, and slightly defeated, I expelled “How did my loins make such ferals?”
Jaecob responded “God made the decision” and winked in the rear vision mirror.

Father 8 years.
Today is my oldest son’s 8th birthday. It’s not that I can’t believe that Jaec is already 8, but that I have been a father for 8 years. Happy birthday buddy.

"Toddler's" the best form of contraception.
I went to Pacific Fair (a local shopping centre/mall) today with my beautiful 22 month old. She has been both awesome and extremely difficult recently. Awesome, as she is great out of her pram and generally listens to me when I call her etc. Difficult, due to “she never wants to be in the pram/car seat/cot”.
When we arrived, she was fast asleep in her car seat, so I transferred her...

"Is it hard taking care of children?"
This was the question my 7 year old asked me this morning.
I don’t know why he would ask such a question, we were only running 30 min late for school, I was looking for a school shirt for him, while changing his sister out of her breakfast ridden pj’s, whilst cleaning the floor, fridge door, high chair of said breakfast, whilst screaming at the 5 year old to put his shoes and socks...

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Today is the last day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One month ago, I thought “What could I do to help raise awareness of Breast Cancer?”, so for every day of October, I wore pink. Whether it was my now famous pink shoes, a pink polo shirt while playing golf or a spare pink clip on my hat as a back up for Yve’s hair.
I always had people commenting on my various pink attire,...

Christmas Shopping has started.
Around this time last year I jumped onto Amazon and ordered a number of Christmas and Birthday (my oldest’s birthday is on December 3) presents for the kids. I mainly looked for things that I can’t get over here (Australia), or stuff that is way more expensive when buying local. I know that it affects the economy by buying online, but the mark up that local stores put on some items...

Time to do the paperwork
I am attempting to do our business’ paperwork today (I’m my wife’s PA as well ;)), it is easier said than done. Even with only 1 child home today, it will no doubt look like this in a few minutes.

What was the most embarrassing thing your partner...
After a number of years in a committed and loving relationship, I have bought a number of things for my wife, that wouldn’t be “typical” for a man to purchase. I have gone out and bought the tampons, pads, prescriptions, panty liners, make up, under garments etc. and have never been flustered. Until recently thought that I was immune to the embarrassment of purchasing something...

House Husbands... Ep. 1 a review by a House...
This week House Husbands premiered on Channel 9 in Australia. House Husbands is described as “A ten-part comedy-drama about the issues of changing gender roles. Nine’s director of television, Michael Healy, stated “House Husbands is a fresh and dynamic look at Australian family life,...

Through the eyes of a Toddler.
Recently, I was upgrading my wife’s computer and put the monitor stand on the ground while I worked out where the monitors were going to be placed. I thought to myself… hmm, I wonder how long that is just going to sit there for…
Within 3 minutes the next 4 pictures were taken.
You see, we all see a monitor stand, my 19 month old sees an opportunity to be a Ringmaster in the Big Top!
This...
