Who sings that song?

We only let our kids do 3 extra curricular activities during the week. Anything more than that is way too much for them on top of school. They have to do swimming (until they are able to do squad, then they can choose to continue or not), then they can choose two other activities. Last term both Kaine and Jaec decided to do Art after school. Lastly, Jaecob chose Basketball and Kaine chose Karate.

Due to stars not aligning, we have had to give up our Saturday mornings. Jaec plays basketball and swimming at one location and Kaine does Karate and swimming at another. I have been taking Jaec and Izaac and Mel takes the Yve and Kaine to Karate.

Last weekend, Jaec wasn’t keen to go to basketball, so the whole family went to Karate. Kaine did do Karate last year, but I hadn’t seen him this year due to Basketball. Kaine’s Sensei splits the class into developing the children’s karate skills and building the children’s confidence. This class was no different, until it came to the end of the class, when the children lined up in front of an empty chair and Sensei.

This is when the children were asked if they wanted to come up and sing a song. Little voices sang their favourite songs and no matter how well they performed, they were met with rapturous applause. Last up was a little girl who started belting out Adele’s - Someone Like you. She was pretty good, and sang the whole song. At the end, everyone applauded and Sensei asked the class -

“Who sings that song?”

Kaine thrust his hand up in the air and Sensei called upon him.

“My Dad” he called out proudly.

Sensei then asked if I wanted to have a go… but I didn’t want to rain on the little girls parade.
