Why can I smell vomit?

Recently, we had an incident where Yve (15 months) was choking on something (nothing came out in her poo, so chances are it was food). She couldn’t breath, so I sprung up and put my fingers down her throat. She gagged and cleared her throat. Whatever it was, it dislodged and she must have swallowed it. She began breathing again and all was well.

I went and washed my hands and sat down to lunch. The rest of the day went well, when we returned home. For some reason, I kept on smelling vomit. I smelt the lounge, pulled it apart and couldn’t find anything. I then smelled my hands… Aaah I smell vomit because I stuck my fingers down your throat a couple of hours ago.
