Play Date

I had a very cute conversation with my oldest son yesterday, that reminded me of a play date he had recently.

One of Jaec’s best friends is a young lady called Taylah. Tay, has a great little personality and is a great friend to Jaec. About 2 months ago or so, Jaec wanted to have Tay over for a play date. He said “We can go shopping, I think Taylah would like to go shopping”. We invited Taylah shopping.

Rewind 2 months

One of my favorite things I like doing is listening to the kids conversations and when you through another child into the conversation (and a female at that), it makes it even more interesting. I was driving the kids to the local shopping centre (mall) and a conversation started on hair colour. Taylah noticed that all our kids had different coloured hair.

“Yve has Blonde hair, you have Dark hair Jaec and Kaine’s is in between”. Tay remarked.

“Yeah, and Mum has all the colours” Jaec responded. Mel has a bit of a multi tone thing happening. :D

During the play date, Tay went into every second shop, and took her time. I had to explain to Jaec, that ladies like to take their time shopping and like to look at lots of things. Jaec wasn’t too happy about that.

We dropped Tay home and I discussed it further… he understood, but wasn’t too happy about it. “Next time I think we will do something else”.

Fast forward back to present day

Jaec pulled me aside “I’d like to have another play date with Tay. I am OK if she wants to go shopping, I know that she will look at more stuff and will buy more stuff than me.” he said.

I’m pretty sure he just wants to buy the latest Ninjago Lego, but he is willing to endure the torture of a days shopping with a lady to get it ;)

3AM Dad gets his Craft on!

Recently I came across a “Clip” Board, not the one that you fill out paperwork on, but a board that you keep bub’s clips on. Raine and Rose had one on their Facebook page, made by Ida’s Boutique. I had a closer look at it in a recent market and thought, what a wonderful idea. Ida’s Boutique’s Clip Boards are much more professional than mine, but I needed something a little bigger. So, I got my craft on! I took Izaac and Yve down to the local Spotlight and sourced my materials.

After getting many “looks” and ignored a few times at Spotlight (crazy sexism in Spotlight, but I’ll save that for another post ;)), I had my materials and new best friend, the “Staple Gun”… Sooo good! I read the instructions and made sure that I wouldn’t shoot Yve.

Now Men aren’t typically known for their present wrapping abilities and I am no different, so even though I got to use the staple gun, it took me ages to get the Butterfly material just right.

Next were the various ribbons to hang the clips off. This is where my Scrap-booking skills kicked in! Only one minor screw up and the ribbon was done.

I decided to check my handy work and put on a couple clips.

Now, I really wanted to put on a few more embellishments, but unfortunately all my stock from my scrap-booking days was blue stuff :( So next time I’m out I’ll buy a couple pink things. But in the mean time… a bit of purple rope for the tough clips and a line of string to hang, the 3AM Dad “Clip” Board is up in Yve’s room taking pride of place near the change table with the other butterflies in her room.

Is it a Girl thing? 2 examples of girls differing to boys.

Yve is our fourth child, but our first pink one. Apart from the obvious differences between girls and boys (i.e. She can’t wee over her own head) we are starting to notice other things

1. None of the boys ever pooed in the bath… Yve has done this twice (refer to Explodapoo for an example).

Yve is hitting most of her development milestones. She is still pretty lazy and doesn’t like to sit for long and rolling over isn’t a favorite either, she’d rather lay on her side than roll all the way over.

2. I wrapped her and put her down for a sleep after her breakfast this morning and the usual stirring occurred. I usually let her have a whinge and then go an check on her after a few minutes. A few minutes went by and I could still hear her murmurs… I stuck my head around the corner to find her, face down, out of her anti roll pillow, still wrapped, head up talking to me smiling.

The boys never did that.

A splash of pink in a sea of blue.

More like a vomit of fairy floss.

Yve’s room is starting to come together (thanks for the help Grandma!). We have bought a number of things for a room, which is settling into the butterfly theme quite well

And we couldn’t leave without a few accessories.
