Play Date

I had a very cute conversation with my oldest son yesterday, that reminded me of a play date he had recently.

One of Jaec’s best friends is a young lady called Taylah. Tay, has a great little personality and is a great friend to Jaec. About 2 months ago or so, Jaec wanted to have Tay over for a play date. He said “We can go shopping, I think Taylah would like to go shopping”. We invited Taylah shopping.

Rewind 2 months

One of my favorite things I like doing is listening to the kids conversations and when you through another child into the conversation (and a female at that), it makes it even more interesting. I was driving the kids to the local shopping centre (mall) and a conversation started on hair colour. Taylah noticed that all our kids had different coloured hair.

“Yve has Blonde hair, you have Dark hair Jaec and Kaine’s is in between”. Tay remarked.

“Yeah, and Mum has all the colours” Jaec responded. Mel has a bit of a multi tone thing happening. :D

During the play date, Tay went into every second shop, and took her time. I had to explain to Jaec, that ladies like to take their time shopping and like to look at lots of things. Jaec wasn’t too happy about that.

We dropped Tay home and I discussed it further… he understood, but wasn’t too happy about it. “Next time I think we will do something else”.

Fast forward back to present day

Jaec pulled me aside “I’d like to have another play date with Tay. I am OK if she wants to go shopping, I know that she will look at more stuff and will buy more stuff than me.” he said.

I’m pretty sure he just wants to buy the latest Ninjago Lego, but he is willing to endure the torture of a days shopping with a lady to get it ;)

What I look forward too - Music

I am thoroughly enjoying raising each and every one of my children. I try and not take any day for granted, as Jaecob will never be 7 years, 1 month and 6 days old ever again, Kaine will never be 5 years, 10 months 1 week and 4 days old ever again… etc. etc.

Every day I learn something new about parenting. I haven’t had “The talk” with any of my kids yet, I haven’t taught any of them to drive the mower, I haven’t taken any of them for their first driving lesson. But one thing I am looking forward too, is exposing them to music.

Music for them at the moment is The Wiggles, Hi5, Justin Bieber and a little bit of Party Rocking (LMFAO). Sure, this music all has a place in their lives (even Bieber).

I can’t wait to play Tupac, Green Day, Jimi Hendrix, The Hard-Ons, The Pharcyde, You Am I, The Roots, Mudhoney, Bjork, Katie Noonan, NWA, Nirvana, and Spicegirls! And that is just off the top of my head.

Music is special to everyone in different ways. It is a blessing and I can’t wait to hear what my kids will be listening to in 5, 10, 15, 20 years time.

They grow up way too fast.

We have a little problem going at the moment. The boys are constantly coming into our bed in the middle of the night. Don’t get me wrong, we are happy for them to come in for a cuddle if they are scared. But of late we are getting at least 1 and quite often 2 little Phantom’s coming into our bed.

This morning, I won’t up to who I thought was Jaecob (6) curled up beside me… upon closer inspection, it was Izaac (4). I can’t believe how quick they are growing up. :(

"Growing up" or "Growing up too fast"?

On 3AM DAD’s Facebook page, I am going to run a series of polls, asking questions about “Growing up or Growing up too fast?”. As parents, it is hard to know when you should give your kids more responsibility. Are they too young? Am I babying them too much?

So over the next few weeks, I am going to ask various questions starting with -

“When did you start asking your children to ******?”

If you are yet to have kids or you have baby’s, please answer

“When will you ask your children to ********?”

I will then collate and post all the results. Please share with your friends.
