We’ve all done it… except you Dad.

Yve has been a late bloomer when it comes to walking. It was the week before she turned 16 months, when she started putting more than a couple of steps together. Part of the issue was her loving brothers doing everything for her. So really, she didn’t have to walk, because one of her many servants would likely get her what she wanted if she called out loud and long enough.

When the boys realised that she was walking, of course they wanted to help her out, which resulted in multiple tumbles to the floor, heads bumped on lounges, tables, carpet and tiles… numerous tears and numerous times Dad and Mum telling them… “it’s OK, let her walk in her own time” :).

Last week Mel came home from work and Yve walked up and greeted her at the back door. Even though she was tired, she was very proud of herself for putting the dozen or so steps together to get to her Mum. Jaec and Mel moved away from each other and tried to get Yve to walk to Mel again. She had a big smile on her face and waddled off towards Mummy. 4 steps in, she fell to her knees. We all supported her and said “good try baby, up you get and try again”. Before we got this out, her tiredness kicked in and she fell forward, banging her head on the floor… then the tears flowed. Mel picked her up for a cuddle and Jaec (7) exclaimed.

“Now we have all bumped Yve’s head, even Mum.” He then looked over to me and said “Well except you Dad, all you did was break her leg.”

Thanks Jaec, it’s still fresh.
